Call for Nominations – Members-at-Large of SSIT Board of Governors

The Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) is seeking nominations for three Member-at-Large (MaL) positions on its Board of Governors (BoG) for the 2027–2029 term.  These positions serve as voting members of the SSIT BoG. MaL candidates make a three-year commitment. MaLs are expected to attend the monthly BoG one-hour conference calls and possibly one in person BoG meeting.  Each MaL is also expected to be actively involved in aspects of the affairs of the Society. MaLs may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.  After completing their terms, they become eligible to serve again after a one-year break.

To apply, submit your self-nomination at SSIT Nominations Portal using your IEEE credentials. The submission must include:

 

  1. Technical and Professional Experience summary, not to exceed 250 words in length, describing the nominee’s professional experience outside the IEEE and SSIT activities.
  2. Summary of the candidate’s current and past service to the SSIT,not to exceed 250 words in length.
  3. Summary of the candidate’scurrent and past relevant IEEE (non-SSIT) and non-IEEE volunteer experience and accomplishments, not to exceed 250 words in length.
  4. A high-resolution photographof the candidate taken within the last 2 years.
  5. Statement of candidacy,not to exceed 250 words in length.

 

If the nominee is selected for the ballot, the information provided in the nomination form will be provided to the voting members of SSIT exactly as submitted and no modifications or edits will be made.  It is suggested that the candidate include any information relevant to their possible contributions to the Society. The information can include previous experience with respect to conferences, publications, finances, chapters, standards, education, governance, and any relevant experience of use to SSIT.

 

The deadline to receive Member-at-Large nominations for the SSIT Board of Governors is 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) 16 August 2026.

Candidates for Members-at-Large of the BoG shall be SSIT members in good standing who have held SSIT membership since January 1 of the year preceding the year of election and who are eligible to hold an elected position in accordance with IEEE governance documents, including Associate Members and SSIT Society Affiliates who have met this membership requirement. Candidates shall have a record of volunteer service in SSIT. (From SSIT Bylaws 4.2.1.)
