The 2025 IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society (ISTAS25) themed “AI Evolution and Revolution” concludes today September 12 in Santa Clara, CA. The packed three days of presentations ends at 1:30 pm Pacific Time.
A final panel “Taking Action with AI” with Kristen Hassen and Joseph Frascati focused on the use of AI to improve animal welfare outcomes. Hassen, founder of the organization “AI for Animals” has worked extensively with workers to address issues in the U.S. shelter system using AI tools.

The conference opened with a Plenary talk from Bob Friday, Chief AI Officer at Juniper Networks. Friday discussed advantages of AI, noting for example that we “don’t have to worry” about self driving vehicles “driving drunk,” but he noted that “it starts to get a little more dicey” when AI systems “start talking to each other.”
Other conference Plenary Speakers have included Kathleen Kramer, 2025 IEEE President and CEO, on Thursday evening, and Tom Coughlin 2025 Past IEEE President on Friday morning.
A fuller report will appear soon.
