Speaker Dr. George Arnold, Chair of the IEEE AgeTech Initiative, was the presenter of the session, which was organized by the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) Education Committee.

AgeTech refers to technologies that enhance independence, well-being, and quality of life for aging adults and individuals with accessibility needs, spanning health monitoring, smart homes, robotics for caregiving and mobility, and digital inclusion. The IEEE AgeTech Initiative promotes technology innovation, disseminates knowledge and guidance, and fosters global collaborations to incubate new standards, data sets, guidelines and innovation challenges. SSIT collaborates with the IEEE AgeTech Initiative.  The presentation provides an overview of this new initiative that furthers IEEE’s mission to advance technology for humanity.

Speaker Dr. George Arnold leads IEEE’s AgeTech project. He is the retired CEO of Tercio Solutions LLC, an M.I.T. spin-out specializing in dynamic scheduling and optimization of industrial operations. From 2006 to 2014, he was a Senior Executive at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), responsible for coordinating the U.S. federal government’s standardization activities and also leading the private-public sector partnership developing the architecture and standards to modernize the nation’s electric grid (Smart Grid).
