Organize Events on the Social Implications of Technology
The IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) Student Activities Committee (SAC) is pleased to
announce a Call for Proposals to organize impactful events and activities that explore and
address the intersection of technology and society.
IEEE SSIT focuses on understanding how technology impacts society and how social
systems influence technological innovation. Our core areas include ethics in technology,
sustainability, public policy, equitable access, and the human dimensions of emerging tech.
We invite proposals from: IEEE SSIT SB Chapters Only
(Call for proposals for Student Branches will open in August 2025)
We invite all active IEEE SSIT SB Chapters to submit proposals for impactful events or
initiatives aligned with the mission of SSIT, as part of our upcoming programs. To maximize
impact, each proposal must include a clearly defined community to be addressed — such
as students, professionals, underserved populations, or local civic groups. It is desired that
at least 50% of the beneficiaries should be SSIT members. Increasing the membership
through these activities should be a main objective.
We strongly encourage collaboration with at least one of the following partner organizations
to foster interdisciplinary engagement:
IEEE WIE, YP, or SIGHT Groups
Other IEEE Technical Chapters
Academic institutions, NGOs, or industry partners working in the SSIT space.
Theme Areas (suggested, but not limited to):
Ethics and Technology: Responsible AI, data privacy, surveillance, digital rights
Sustainability: Tech solutions for environmental and social challenges
Public Policy & Regulation: Tech policy, governance, and advocacy
Tech for Humanity: Social innovation, accessibility, assistive technologies
Future of Work: Automation, gig economy, digital labour rights
Digital Inclusion: Bridging the digital divide, empowering underserved communities
Health, Education, and Climate: Impact of technology on critical global issues

Awareness and outreach programs (webinars, panel discussions, TED-style talks)
Workshops, conferences, and symposiums
Competitions or hackathons focusing on socially relevant tech
Policy roundtables and stakeholder engagement forums
Art, storytelling, or design-thinking events exploring tech’s societal impact
