On Earth 3, we will explore Earth 1 through the lens of Science, Technology, the Environment, Ethics, and Law, or STEEL for short. Each week we will discuss and examine crucial questions arising from the scientific progress and the adoption of new technologies. We dive deeply into the benefits and ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence, genomics, synthetic biology and artificial life, by calling attention to nanotechnology, neuropharmacology, neuroprosthetics and bionics, stem cell research, pharmacoelectronics, radical life extension, cryonics, information technology, virtual reality and augmented reality, ubiquitous and pervasive computing, bodily, mental, social, and physical enhancements. It’s all on the table. We’ll peer into the future and consider what defines being “human” or “intelligence,” or the “moral responsibility” for we benefactors of modern science and technology.
