Clinton Andrews, a Past-President of SSIT, has been recognized with the IEEE PES Robert Noberini Distinguished Contributions to Power Engineering Professionalism Award.

The PES Robert Noberini Award web page notes that the recognition honors “PES members in the power engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the areas served by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES).”

Andrews is cited for “contributions and leadership to IEEE and PES professional activities in support of Energy Policy, Environmental Planning, Industrial Ecology, Sustainability, and Social Implications of Technology.”

Andrews is a Distinguished Professor, center director, and the associate dean for research at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ USA. Among other leadership and volunteer roles in IEEE and SSIT, Andrews has served as a member of the IEEE board of directors and as chair of the ethics & member conduct committee.  He twice served as IEEE SSIT President, most recently in 2021-2022.

An article posted by the Bloustein School quotes Andrews’ acceptance speech, in which he notes that SSIT “has helped me articulate a view of engineering professionalism …. True engineering professionals do their very best to anticipate unexpected consequences of their work. They ‘model it twice, before building it once;’ they act ethically; they reflect on their past decisions; they keep track of how their systems are currently performing; and they stand ready to learn something new.”
