Thank you for being part of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT), where our shared mission is to explore how technology affects society and to ensure its benefits reach everyone.
SSIT invites motivated and purpose-driven Young Professionals to volunteer as Committee team leaders and members of our Young Professionals (YP) Committee for the year 2026.
The SSIT Young Professionals Committee drives engagement and membership growth by designing and delivering programs tailored to the needs and interests of young professionals, highlighting the connections among technology, ethics, and societal well-being. We are looking for motivated volunteers who want to take the lead in shaping these initiatives, managing programs, and creating meaningful experiences for their peers across SSIT.

- Design thinking and human-centered innovation workshops
- Mentorship programs (students, YPs, cross-region)
- Outreach and collaboration to increase SSIT membership
🧩 Roles & Responsibilities
YP Committee members will collectively:
- Plan and execute YP-focused activities aligned with SSIT’s mission
- Support budget planning, utilization, and financial reporting
- Prepare activity reports and impact summaries
- Coordinate speakers, partners, and global volunteers
- Actively promote SSIT through member engagement and referrals
- Collaborate with other SSIT committees and IEEE units
🛠️ Desired Skills & Attributes
- IEEE SSIT Young Professional member (2026)
- Strong interest in ethics, technology for social good, or policy
- Experience (or willingness to learn) in:
- IEEE Young Professionals activities at Section, Region, MGA or other Societies
- Event planning or program coordination
- Budgeting, documentation, or reporting
- Communication, outreach, or community building
- Proactive mindset, reliability, and collaborative spirit
Roles and Responsibilities:
Programs & Activities Lead
- Design and execute YP activities (forums, workshops, mentorship)
- Coordinate speakers, partners, and schedules
- Ensure diversity of themes and global participation
- Track participation and impact metrics
Outreach & Membership Lead
- Promote SSIT YP activities across Sections and Regions
- Drive membership growth through referrals and engagement
- Coordinate with Chapters, Students, and YP affinity groups
- Manage communications (email, social media, announcements)
Finance & Reporting Lead
- Prepare and track annual budget
- Coordinate with SSIT Treasurer as needed
- Ensure proper documentation, utilization, and reporting
- Support funding requests and post-event reports
📅 Time Commitment
Approx. 3–5 hours per month, with peak involvement during major events.
📣 How to Apply
Interested volunteers are requested to submit an email with the following information by 30 January 2026 to the SSIT Vice President of Membership, Prof. Ramalatha Marimuthu:
- A brief statement of interest (150–200 words)
- IEEE membership number, region and section and the years of SSIT membership
- Areas you would like to contribute to along with justification
- Experience in serving section, region or higher level committees
